And I swear that *once*, Admin actually DID do a server wide warning that the game was about to reboot, so I know they have it them, they just haven’t been consistent with it. I feel that this is something that Admin should certainly work on getting the kinks out of prior to the game leaving beta, as its one of the few games I’ve ever played that doesn’t have some sort of in game warning system in place, and I feel like this may turn people off the game if its not corrected in the long term.
Things are vastly improved over months ago where the game was being rebooted far more often (I got trapped in someone’s dilapidated house with a chaos once, that was super fun), and I do appreciate that he gave us some lead time to know it was coming, but I’m sure there were multiple people who didn’t read the notes, didn’t remember the note, or failed to do the time zone conversion – I honestly thought this maint was going to happen earlier today because I failed to think it through (this is extra sad because I often do time zone conversions at work, I still had to doublecheck). We can all be like “haha well you should have read it” but that serves no purpose most games and online systems remind people, and I’m confident that we’ll get there.
This would be useful so +1 to that – people leave tribes all the time, though I’ve also observed that towers you’ve built yourself don’t seem to hit you if you’re not in the tribe, so that’s something. It also dawns on me now that I may have fundamentally misunderstood the parameters for /upgrade and I would actually need something like this if wanted to say, change over the tribe name.
I’d be interested in knowing if you tried /upgrade again, in case it acts like a toggle? but I figure you probably did
I like some combination of both ideas – tbh if there was a way to only see the damage myself (such as with the repairmode suggestion) then others wouldn’t realize how badly damaged a door was unless they looked.
I would accept others knowing my doors/towers were falling though if it also clued me in. It’s hard to remember what I’ve already fixed and seeing cracks would help towards that.
Imma name mine the sane thing bc it’s confusing lol
In all seriousness tho yes, that would be handy esp if you have more than one dog (or like 20..) and you need to figure out which one newspaper training. Bonus if you could type ‘come/stay [dogname]’

You definitely cannot place floor tiles over road tiles, but the opposite is true (people kept ‘fixing’ our road with floor tiles, which was slightly helpful actually once I figured out I could just place a road on top)
I have placed stone roads on top of gravel tiles before, but I have not tried gravel over stone. IF gravel over stone works then gravel most certainly takes far less time to dig up so that’s the way to go. If not, then you just need more people to help out if you can manage it. We got 9 pieces out in about 20 minutes with 4 mid-level diggers.
so many iterations of this same thing lol yes 🙂
Awesome yes ^^^ if the game is going to take the wall out in four hits, maybe just split the damage up into 10%, 10%, 10%, 70% unless you’ve got a hammer in hand (or even then, four hits is four hits).
When my repair kits turn red I save them for towers (or walls I did not build), because I’ve broken through too many walls that way too.
This thread has devolved quite a bit but I’m going to add my 2 cents and repeat something I’ve said before, on Texas, at least, it’s the wild west. When you start there is a VERY high likelihood that you will a) get killed b) get raided and c) there may or may not be any particular reason behind why this happened. How you react to these events has a MAJOR factor in what happens next, however. I had nothing and knew no one when I started. I was killed as a level 9 because I ran away from another level 9 who then told his level 40 buddy that I’d killed him. I briefly (privately and politely) informed to the level 40 that his friend was a liar and went back to what I was doing. I didn’t know whether responding was going to lead to more grief or not (not in this case) but I did know for sure that had I freaked out in a public manner that moving on would have been less of an option.
This was months ago, when Texas was purported as the worst server to join, yet, I hadn’t had much luck on a “better server” so I went because I figured it was all or nothing. In many regards I consider myself extremely lucky that things panned out the way that they did, but I also take some credit for being respectful, non-reactive, and thinking things through. There have been frustrating moments, there have been moments where we were bullied with cause, there have been moments where we were bullied without cause. And we picked up the pieces and moved on, every time, largely without fanfare. While it’s not for everyone, this game requires a certain amount of patience, whether that’s weathering a storm or gaining levels to take whatever revenge you have in mind down the road. Sometimes the only way to win is not to play. But sometimes you can play but win by NOT feeding into the madness and despair.
To each their own, but at no point did I considering giving the server or game a bad review over the completely within-bounds actions of others. At no point did I decide it was time to question the decisions of my leadership, or other tribes leadership, though we’ve all had some calm discussions about how things can be better/different. Whenever possible, I have tried to work things out with others verbally because that’s how things generally improve. When that fails, again, what you do with that failure matters, and you have to know when to drop it too. I feel like Arlock tried to talk it out, was shot down, and continued to press which led to irritation on multiple sides and him being chased off. Was the death of an ignorant player fair? Was him defending the noobiness of some person until they turned on him too fair? What the hell IS fair? It’s a game and with all games, people with power will often use that power to make decisions that are immediately beneficial to them and potentially not anyone else, or at least, not immediately understood by anyone else.
With all this said, I agree that it can be challenging to get a foothold in this game, especially if you are younger or lack patience, but it takes all kinds of people to make the game work. Some who are quiet, some who pve, some who pvp, some who are trolls, some who are bullies, etc. I think one solution would be to allow the new players a longer grace period, whether that’s in newbie village or another area that is non-pvp that you eventually level out of, possibly with housing so you have a chance to build up some resources. I also am fairly certain this solution would be abused and lead to an entirely new trolling front. So a better solution is to ask questions, learn from mistakes, brush the dirt off one’s shoulders, and try not to make those same mistakes again. Maybe on the same server if you didn’t dig too large a hole, maybe on a new server where you can get a fresh start with fresh people. No one should be penalized for having a voice, but, this isn’t real life and sometimes it doesnt pan out that way (if it was RL then the honey wouldn’t expire..) Admin has already made vast improvements on certain things to mitigate some of the frustrations new players find (infamy, road digging, tower griefing, etc> and I have every faith that things will improve as the game grows.
OMG on the honey, I was so offended when mine went bad lol. The herbs in general, really too, I know they have a longer shelf life but how does a dried herb like pepper really go ‘bad’
IF there was snow we could have an ice box (not a fridge..), or at least some sort of cold storage like, maybe things go bad less swiftly if you make an underground room or something.
+1 yes
+1
also seemed like a fun time to shout Taste the Rainbow…
From what I’ve gathered from others the location has little bearing on lag, there’s more of an impact from other factors such as server load, the data center’s load, and logging. I’ve been USW and EU before and still experienced some lag. Though geographically I should be on USE I’m not having extraordinary issues on Texas, though there’s always a potential for lag.
hehe, sometimes I use lanterns cuz I’m too lazy to walk, I guess I wont be doing that anymore 🙂 from what I was reading elsewhere it was being semi-abused.
op – can also mean overpowered, as in a really tough opponent (“when I’m OP i’ll join X tribe” or “mind flayers are op”)
idc- I don’t care
cba – can’t be asked/bothered (or possible a more vulgar word here, as in “I cba to fix the road”)
FTR nothing about texas has been destroyed….we’re still here thriving away in our own little bubbles <3
