It is very cheap and easy for a low level griefer to build walls over a road. It is even easier to make a shovel and dig out pavement. And there is really nothing the community can do about it, such griefers have nothing to lose, and killing them is pointless.
I propose to make road vandalism harder. First, make it so that walls and gates can not be built on roads. Second, make roads much harder to dig out, so that it takes some 15-20 minutes to dig out a single road tile if your digging skill is under 10.
Of course, they can still grief, but they need to get digging levels first. It will take some time, and also killing them will reduce their digging level.
November 21, 2017 at 9:06 am #4002I agree with the OP.
It requires no effort for a griefer to destroy time-invested effort from a player.
No walls on roads make sense. Requiring removal of a road before wall placement also makes sense. Therein lies the issue of crafting/placement/removal.
Currently, road tiles are movement multipliers. It would be nice if the creating of the road unit and placement ties to skills like crafting/construction that acts as a buffer towards digging skill. Added benefits could also be resistance to nature tile takeover. This system could look similar to the current crafting bonus system, but perhaps simpler in design, maybe even portable.
Not only would this bring value to the veteran road building/house building/world designing player, it would act as a deterrent towards the expendable griefer.
May as well add in ‘dirt/clay/wood’ roads as an alternative to pre-stone. Actually, I would suggest adding silver-stone as an option, especially versus diggers as a crafters insurance option, there need be more silver sinks in the economy anyway.

I am not saying that making roads is too hard. I am saying that it takes much less time to grief a road than to make or fix it. And there is no efficient punishment system for caught griefers.November 21, 2017 at 4:15 pm #4017You can’t build structures on roads already. You’re required to dig up the road before building a structure.
It was updated in this patch:
Structures can’t be built on roads, and take full damage without adjacent supporting structures.
Also, there’s this:
Also you can no longer place road or floor tiles on top of stone road to overwrite it. It must be dug up first.

November 21, 2017 at 4:21 pm #4019Oops, missed that. Scratch my first suggestion. 🙂 But make digging roads require more skill.
November 23, 2017 at 8:34 am #4040As an infrastructure advocate I am really torn on this. Currently working to establish some type of road system in TX server while not getting to far behind on my progression.
I just can’t support the suggestion. I havnt seen this being an issue really since even griefers want roads to run on. People that do engage in this behavior are very very quickly dealt with. THATS why I can’t support the suggestion. I can not support suggestions that interfere in our fun in game… Our struggle to live in the sandbox. A road griefer gets everyone up in arms and the pitchforks and torch come out.
Perhaps we can relook at this once it actually if ever becomes an issue? A persistent issue. Not just a screenshot of a few tiles being torn up.
