Stairs destroy tiles below

So after waking up to our basement being raided and thousands of ores and gems stolen me and my wife did some deductive skills there was 1 missing tile in a room(no it didnt decay) nd after tryna figure out multiple ways someone broke into our basement without touchn a single wall and you cant rope up i realized that this person made stairs above our basement and it destroyed the tile below making him easily walk in and out of our basement. im wondering is this mechanic on purpose? if you cant rope up into someones base because a tile is above it I believe stairs should act the same way and not allowing it to be built if a floor tile is placed below it. @admin

You cannot rope down, only up. However, floor tiles do not prevent stairs from being built above ground in to your base only items on each floor tile can prevent that.
