Help me understand building decay rate (new player).

So after building a small wooden house, I just go off to collect some more materials and come back to a cracked wall (i repair it). I log off for the night and come back on in the morning, and most of the walls have just melted and gone. What this tells me is that building anything is not feasible for me right now, but the question is why?

Is this due to my low construction skill? If so, at what construction level is it feasible to build a house?

I feel like there are some hidden mechanics at play which are not mentioned in the Guide. Is there a resource for learning more about this?

I’m pretty new to, but as far as I’m aware walls decay over time as standard.

They decay quicker if they do not have 2 or more adjoining walls.

I have been told that building walls on tiles slows the decay, but I’ve also been told that it has no impact.

Floor tiles will decay if not surrounded by walls or other tiles.

Construction increases the max HP of the items you build.

I know that a few players are at work on these – the wiki is constantly being updates, Testament is working on some things based on what he’s said in chat, although I feel he may have been hounded out of the game by some players.

There was someone on with a name called MysteriaToolbox earlier too, which makes me think they may be guide related.

This was really useful actually! How did you find out about the adjacent walls thing? I was using a diamond pattern to have more space with less walls, so that was probably an issue 🙂

Adjacent walls means to the right/left/top/bottom. Walls in the corners are not counted.

Something else just learned – decay is halved for structures above half health.
